Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Optomechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The candidate will be tasked with the architectural design, evaluation, integration and test support of electro-optical imaging systems in spaceborne applications such as CubeSats. The successful candidate will need to merge numerous multi-physics design requirements into a single instrument and subsequently collaborate with mechanical and electronic engineers and designers. Previous experience designing optical payloads is a must, as well as having very high attention to detail and a passion for success. The successful candidate can expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment, which offers the opportunity to push the boundaries of what is achievable with optical payloads in the CubeSat domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Generating design requirements and performing the detailed design of high-precision optomechanical systems
- Creating detailed, high tolerance, optical and optomechanical drawings
- Researching and selecting COTS/custom materials and components as required by the design
- Managing the manufacturing of the optomechanical systems
- Designing the assembly and integration processes for the designed optomechanical systems
- Assist with assembly, integration and testing to qualify newly developed systems
- Generating technical design documentation, ICD and test reports
- Creating integration documentation, assembly instructions, BOM’s for newly developed systems before handing them over to the production team
- Providing technical support to production, sales, and marketing teams
Required Skills
- 5 to 10+ years of engineering experience
- Highly experienced in optics and optomechanics
- Knowledge and experience of electro-optical payload design
- Experience guiding a conceptual design through the development phases from requirements generation through to production, qualification and testing
- Experience with assembly, integration and testing of optomechanical systems using optical alignment instrumentation and optomechanical best practices
- Experience working with CAD, generating detailed optical and optomechanical drawings
- Proficient in generating technical documentation such as design documentation, ICD and test documentation
- Very high attention to detail with the ability to execute tasks accurately and in a timely fashion
- Have the ability to work independently, as well as within a multi-disciplined team
- Willing to share expertise and train other employees
- Sounds understanding of finite element analysis and interpreting results
- Experience with Siemens Teamcenter and NX software is advantageous
- Familiarity with optical design software such as Zemax is advantageous
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanical Engineering or related
- Desired: Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanical Engineering or related
