“An earth observation (EO) camera is an optical payload mounted on a satellite or CubeSat that captures imagery of Earth’s surface. EO cameras range from RGB (visible light) snapshot imagers to multispectral sensors capturing discrete wavelength bands, to hyperspectral imagers resolving hundreds of spectral channels. Key performance parameters include ground sampling distance (GSD), swath width, spectral range, and satellite form factor compatibility.”
Multispectral cameras capture a small number of discrete spectral bands — typically 4 to 8 — including visible and near-infrared wavelengths. They are well-suited to vegetation health indices and land cover classification. Hyperspectral cameras capture dozens to hundreds of contiguous narrow bands, enabling material-level spectral fingerprinting for applications like mineralogy, environmental monitoring, and crop disease detection. Simera Sense offers both: MultiScape (8 VNIR bands) and HyperScape (32 VNIR bands).

Simera Sense cameras are designed for 1U, 1.5U, and 12U CubeSat form factors. xScape50 targets 3U platforms, xScape100 fits 6U and larger configurations, and xScape200 is designed for 16U and larger satellites requiring sub-2 m ground resolution.

At 500 km altitude, the xScape50 achieves approximately 30 m GSD, the xScape100 achieves 4.75 m GSD, and the xScape200 achieves 1.5 m GSD. Actual GSD varies with orbital altitude — contact us for orbit-specific performance analysis.

Yes. Simera Sense provides turnkey on-ground image processing tools including radiometric calibration, orthorectification, and band registration. For on-board data and image processing we work with a range of partners with proven mission success.

Flight heritage refers to a payload’s verified operational history in orbit. It means the design has survived launch vibration, the space radiation environment, thermal cycling, and vacuum — and has produced usable data. Simera Sense has over 50 payloads in orbit with more than 36,000 collective days of heritage, which substantially reduces mission risk compared to first-flight hardware.

The three xScape families differ primarily in form factor, aperture, and resulting ground resolution. xScape50 is a 1U compact camera optimised for wide-area coverage. xScape100 is a 1.5U system offering a balance of resolution and swath. xScape200 is a high-performance 12U system achieving sub-2 m GSD from a nanosatellite. xScape50 and xScape100 are available in RGB (TriScape), multispectral (MultiScape), or hyperspectral (HyperScape) variants, xScape200 is available in RGB (TriScape) or multispectral (MultiScape).
